3 Ways You Can Make Valentine’s Day Fun Again After Your Divorce

Since mid-January, we have been bombarded with cards, heart-shaped chocolates, and a whole lot of red and pink every time we walk into a store. Valentine’s Day is regarded mostly as a “greeting card” holiday, but celebrating it can bring a little fun into those cold winter days. For people who have gone through a separation or a divorce, however, February 14 is just another day to remind them that their romantic relationships have not worked out so well. Although it can be painful to be reminded of love, you do not have to spend the day moping. Instead of being miserable on Valentine’s Day, below are a few ways you can make the holiday fun again.

Spend Time With Family and Friends

The best way to get through the day is to surround yourself with your friends and family members. Going through a hard time is always much easier when you have a good support system. Plan a night out with your friends, siblings, or cousins and make a point to focus on them and not the couples around you.

Treat Yourself to Something Special

On Valentine’s Day, people often lavish gifts upon their partners, with chocolate and flowers being the quintessential presents. However, just because you are single, this does not mean you cannot enjoy the gifts that Valentine’s Day has to offer. Treat yourself to a nice bottle of wine or a box of fancy chocolates during a night in. Or, do something that you really love to do but do not often have time for, such as taking a bubble bath or curling up under a blanket to watch a movie or read a good book.

Celebrate the Day With Your Kids

Valentine’s Day is typically regarded as a day of love, but that does not mean it has to be romantic love. Spend the day with some of the biggest loves of your life -- your children. Keep the gift-giving tradition alive by treating your children to something small, like a stuffed animal or balloon. You could even get creative and make Valentine’s Day-themed desserts or crafts. Your children will enjoy the time you get to spend together
