Aurora, Illinois Uncontested Divorce Attorney

Aurora Uncontested Divorce Attorney

Family Lawyer for Cooperative Divorce Cases in DuPage County and Kane County

In the movies and on TV, divorce is often portrayed as contentious, messy, and wrought with lies and manipulation by bitter spouses. In the real world, however, the divorce process is often much less dramatic. In fact, many divorcing couples are able to agree that ending the marriage is the right choice and to work together in addressing the issues relevant to their situation. If this describes your circumstances, you are going through what is commonly referred to as an "uncontested divorce." Compared to a litigated divorce, an uncontested divorce is usually much easier, faster, and less expensive, but you will still need to consider many factors along the way.

Regardless of how amicable the relationship between you and your spouse might be, it is best to have a qualified attorney on your side to protect your best interests during the divorce. While an uncontested divorce is usually preferable to litigation, the process will almost certainly have its challenges.

My name is Attorney Matthew M. Williams, and I am the principal attorney at the The Law Office of Matthew M. Williams, P.C. With more than 15 years of family law experience, I am equipped to help you negotiate the terms of your uncontested divorce and to complete the process as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Filing for an Uncontested Divorce in Illinois

The success of an uncontested divorce depends on the ability of the spouses to work together to reach an agreement on the relevant issues. Depending on your situation, you and your spouse may have already established tentative agreements on concerns such as asset division, parenting responsibilities, and child support before you even filed your divorce petition. If an agreement has not been reached, you could still obtain an uncontested divorce by meeting with your spouse after the petition was filed. With my background and knowledge of the law, I can help you develop common-sense solutions that focus on allowing both of you to move forward with your lives.

Once an agreement has been reached, I can also assist you in preparing the agreement so that it can be presented to the court for approval. Upon being approved by the court, the agreement will be included as part of the divorce judgment that legally dissolves your marriage.

Why Do I Need a Lawyer for an Uncontested Divorce?

If you think that you and your spouse are cooperative enough to get an uncontested divorce, you might be tempted to try to do it without the help of an attorney. This is rarely a good idea, however, and I strongly urge you to consider hiring a lawyer. The laws that regulate the divorce process in Illinois are complex and often confusing for a person without legal training. As a result, it is all too easy to make a mistake that could end up costing you a substantial amount of money in lost assets or support payments you did not need to make.

In addition to protecting your rights and helping you avoid costly errors, I can also assist you in settling disagreements that arise during negotiations. I can offer an experienced perspective, creative solutions, and helpful ideas that could allow you to resolve your differences quickly and affordably.

Flat-Fee Divorce Options in Aurora

One of the most significant benefits of an uncontested divorce is the opportunity to keep costs under control. If you and your spouse have already reached an agreement on the relevant issues, I offer an uncontested divorce for the flat rate of:

  • $1,500 plus court costs for an uncontested divorce if you and your spouse have no children
  • $2,000 plus court costs for an uncontested divorce if you and your spouse have children

My flat fees include the preparation of all applicable paperwork, including your marital property settlement and your parenting plan. The rate also includes the first revision if changes are required. Flat-fee pricing is not available in every case, as those that require additional negotiations will not usually qualify. However, I also offer flexible payment plans and reasonable retainers as part of my commitment to you.
